My Vision of BluetoothI see Bluetooth as wireless method of exchanging services. It see it as similar to web services in that devices (In the case of web services, software.) commnicate by services. For example, my PDA might need internet access. It would search the surrounding PAN for a service that provides internetiaccess. My cell phone would be broadcasting that it provided internet access and the two would connect, automatically. I see a lot of people putting down Bluetooth on forums I visit. I think it's due to the misunderstanding of bluetooth. I think they see it as just another wireless networking protocol that's not as fast as WiFi and therefore pointless. In my opinion, they are two different technologies intended for wholly different purposes. WiFi is just ethernet over wireless. This is great for letting laptops, PCs, and other powerful electronic devices communicate. It is high bandwidth and high power consumption. Bluetooth, on the other hand, is a wireless method of connecting a wide variety of very different devices and letting them exchange services. } 1/6/03 {It is designed to be embedded in many devices ranging from cell phones to refrigerators. I think that within the next few years, Bluetooth will either be proven as useful and implemented everywhere or die out. I really hope it catches on because I think it could do a lot but it's going to need to come down in price. The Bluetooth MemoryStick is over $200! I'm not really sure why Bluetooth hasn't been adopted yet except by a few devices like the t68i and the Tungsten T. Maybe it's the cost but that's the manufacturer's fault. |
